Rs 640 cr for Sanskrit, only Rs 3 cr for Kannada: Cong attacks Shah
Congress on Friday targeted Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his claims that BJP promotes all languages, and also asked why the government spent only Rs 3 crore to support the promotion of Kannada while spending Rs 640 crore on Sanskrit.Kannada is one of the six classical languages of the country. Congress general secretary and communication in-charge Jairam Ramesh in a tweet on Friday said, "The HM has claimed in an interview that the BJP stands for 'promotion' of all languages... 1. Is that why the Modi government has spent Rs 640 crore to promote Sanskrit and JUST Rs 3 crore to support promotion of Kannada, one of the six classical languages of the country?""2. Is that why the man who insulted the great Kuvempu (who penned the state anthem) was made Chairman of the text book revision committee by the 40% Commission Sarkara in Karnataka? 3. Ahead of Karnataka polls, unaccounted cash of Rs 4 crore seized in Kolar
Ahead of Karnataka Assembly elections on May 10, the Kolar Gold Fields (KGF) Police on Thursday seized Rs 4 crore of unaccounted cash from a house and a car in Kolar's Zion Hills.
"Unaccounted cash of Rs 4,04,94,500 seized from a house and a car in Zion Hills by KGF Police under the direct supervision of SP Dr Dharani Devi," police said.
"It is believed that the money was kept allegedly to distribute among the voters," they said.
Further investigation is underway, the police added.

With the promise of a possible ban on Bajrang Dal in its election manifesto being made a big election issue by BJP, the Congress has done an internal survey which says only a small section of people in Karnataka feel it is an election issue, party sources said.
They said according to the survey, only seven per cent of voters in Karnataka are even aware of what the issue is and "of this less than 10 per cent thought it was an election issue"
Congress sources did not give details of sample size, areas where it was done or the age group in which the survey was done.
